detail of painting showing white flowers in a vase with his trademark ladybird

Cecil Kennedy was an artist in the manner of the seventeenth century Dutch masters. He exhibited at the Royal Academy in London, the Paris Salon and at the Royal Scottish Academy. His works were sold in the main London galleries of MacConnal-Mason, Richard Green and the Fine Art Society.

Queen Mary purchased several flower paintings by Cecil Kennedy and it was she who suggested to the artist that he should now always include a LADYBIRD in his paintings as a seal or trade-mark.
